| Successful Applicants > London Boxing Academy Community Project |
The William Wates Memorial Trust is very pleased to announce that we will be supporting two students through the London Boxing Academy in 2007/2008. This represents total funding of £10,000.
Based in Tottenham, the LBA uses boxing as a way to entice children with a bad track record at school back into the classroom. In addition to boxing and sport the LBA mainly teach English and Maths and also various vocational subjects on demand.
In 2007 the LBA entered its second year. During this time the project expanded from 8 students and 2 staff, to 26 students and 10 staff. The student’s behaviour has improved across the board, displaying better manners, punctuality and a growing awareness of their responsibilities. Their academic marks are continuously improving in regular tests, but perhaps more importantly most of the students are themselves choosing to make important changes in their lives.
